At the Lincoln Centre last week, Max Azria and Lubov, his co-designer wife, presented a Fall 2012 collection of fluid sophistication defined by simplicity and wearability.
There were overt nods to Bauhaus design through geometric colour blocking and a rust, royal blue and black palette. But there was also a light and airy feel to the silhouettes reminiscent of Seventies American sportswear; sheer panelled dresses in elongated lengths, louche jumpsuits, and wide-leg jersey trousers. Pleats and strategic slits added texture and danger where needed.
This was a collection composed mostly of beautiful dresses with few outerwear garments there wasnt a jumper in sight.
We were given a tip off for this film while in Dublin today for our SS12 press day. The brother of Irish Times Fashion Editor Deirdre McQuillan filmed himself driving around Dublin in 1976 in a Mini Moke and it is now a huge youtube hit in Ireland 36 years later. Check out the flares. We wonder if any of those were Made in Heaven (get it?).
Simplicity at Its Best with Wintertime Nudes

The depths of winter always make me want to pare down and cozy up. We need to wear more layers, but as the bright colors and patterns of the holiday season are washed away, and a New Year is born, we look to cleanse, restructure, and repurpose. Dressing in neutral tones is an easy way to visually achieve the clarity and purpose of beginnings.
More than ever before, I want everything in my closet (and my life) to matter, to be truly useful, to function at its highest purpose. These nude pieces will layer beautifully now, and will pair wonderfully with whatever colors and patterns are coming in 2012. With classic shapes and beautiful, sustainable fabrics, each of these pieces will find years of wear.

The biggest fashion and beauty moments of 2011 undoubtedly came from the two biggest weddings of the year. Kate and Kim couldn’t differ any more in terms of style – and as wives — but both made showstopping brides.
If it wasn’t the big white dress celebrities were donning, it was a big red mane of hair. The fiery hue showed up in a variety of shades, on a variety of women.
We didn’t see any notable men rocking red hair, but we did see a variety of them slimming down. From Jonah Hill to Carlos Mencia, it seems Hollywood no longer wants just its starlets super skinny.
Here’s a rundown of the 2011 fashion and beauty moments that made us gasp – both in delight and disgust.
