Ive resisted getting reading glasses for a couple of years even though its getting increasingly difficult to see up close. I can see far away just fine. For a while, my rule was, As long as I can still read a restaurant menu by holding it at arms length, Im okay. Then I had to adjust to the rule to, As long as I can read a restaurant menu after someone walks over to the other side of the restaurant and holds it up, Im okay.
Occasionally, when I encounter over-the-counter reading glasses in a store, Ill try them on, marvel at how well they work, and put them back on the display. Yesterday, I was doing my usual try on the glasses with no intention of buying them routine. But then I looked at the Cleves swan ring that I was wearing.
First, I thought, Holy shit! Ive never gotten a good look at this before. Then I thought, Oh my God! This ring is AMAZING! I am so talented! I felt full of self-esteem. Next came the crash, as I wondered, Why am I not winning many awards for my outstanding work?! I became bitter, and it was in a bitter mood that I bought the glasses. MrB tried to console me by saying, Youre mostly going to wear them at home. No one is going to have to see them. I said, But I have to post them on my blog. Reasonably, he asked, Why do you have to do that? Well, because I dont have any other post ready to go. Thats why!
Here I am, pretending Im not bitter.
MrB said that the problem with reading glasses is that they tend to get lost. I cant wait!
